Chapter 11: Menu Management — 11.3 Time Window

Use Time Window to control when certain menu items are available. For example, breakfast items only from 7am—11am, or happy hour drinks from 5pm—8pm. When a time window is active, only the assigned items will appear on the POS and QR ordering page.

When to use this: When you need to set up time-based menu availability (e.g., breakfast menu 7AM-11AM, lunch menu 11AM-3PM).

Prerequisites

  • Menu Builder configured with menu items

Time Window List

📝 General Description

A Time Window defines a recurring schedule (e.g., "Breakfast: Mon-Fri 7:00–11:00 AM"). When assigned to a menu or product, that menu/product is only available on the POS during the defined time period. Outside the time window, the items are hidden from the POS screen.

11.3.5 How Time Windows Work with Menus

POS Terminal checks current day + time

Matches against assigned time window

If within window → Product/menu page is SHOWN
If outside window → Product/menu page is HIDDEN

Time windows can be assigned to:

  • Menu Pages in the Menu Builder (Section 11.1) — entire pages appear/disappear.
  • Individual Products — specific items are only orderable during the window.
  • Menu Setup (Section 10.1) — QR ordering menus follow the schedule.

💡 Example

Scenario: A café serves breakfast (7AM–11AM) and lunch (11AM–3PM) with different menus.

Setup:

  1. Create Time Window: "Breakfast" — Mon–Sun, 07:00–11:00.
  2. Create Time Window: "Lunch" — Mon–Sun, 11:00–15:00.
  3. In Menu Builder: Assign the "Breakfast" page to the Breakfast time window.
  4. Assign the "Lunch" page to the Lunch time window.
  5. An "All Day" page has no time window — always visible.
  6. Result: At 9 AM, cashiers see Breakfast + All Day items. At noon, they see Lunch + All Day items.

[!TIP] For F&B operations with distinct dayparts, time windows are essential. They prevent cashiers from accidentally ordering items that the kitchen isn't serving during that period.

[!NOTE] Time windows use the POS terminal's local clock. Ensure all terminals have the correct time set, or menu availability will be inconsistent.
